ABOUT THE SERIES

WHY IS FEMINISM IMPORTANT TO THE DIRECTOR:

"The idea of feminism is one that I have only known for around five years yet it is something that I have thought a lot about. When I first heard the word I was around 13 or 14. My friend, lets call her Sophie, was very much ahead of her time in the fact her opinions on feminism were so concrete, she was the first feminist I ever heard of. At the time i was young and insecure. I cared a lot about what people thought of me so I changed myself in order to impress others. Therefore, when Sophie was being called a 'femi-nazi' and a 'man-hater', I didn't really do anything. Now looking back this is one of my biggest regrets, but I didn't actually know what feminism even was myself. So I asked Sophie, she educated me. The importance of this story is the correlation between education and mis-information. I automatically believed feminism to be a bad thing because I had mis-information about it: I thought that being a feminist was hating men. Personally, I blame the lack of education on feminism in schools as the blame. That is why i am creating this documentary, to avoid mis-information and to educate those of which who haven't been educated on what feminism actually is; as a way to avoid young people having negative connotations with the word."

TRACY FARROW: INTERVIEWEE 1

Tracy is a mum of two girls, who was one of the first women to join the

Royal Navy. Here views on feminism come from a mothers perspective

as she talks about how the progression of feminism has allowed her

daughters to fulfil their life goals, something that they may have not been

able to do if we lived in a historic generation.

AISHAH AHMED: INTERVIEWEE 2

Aishah is of Indian ethnicity and is very forward thinking in terms of

feminist ideas, her answer covers a wide range of aspects of feminism.

The main focus of hr answer related to equality to all and she emphasised

on education and free sanitary products for women.

GERRY O'MEARA: INTERVIEWEE 3

Gerry gave a male perspective of feminist ideas and kept his answer

short and sweet. He is homosexual, so I thought his perspective

would be interesting to incorporate.

DARCEY POWELL: INTERVIEWEE 4

I would describe Darcey as a very intelligent person when it comes to feminism. She has great understanding in the subject due to this interest and I thought her opinion would be one of the most interesting ones because she is so educated in the topic.

SHAUN SMITH: INTERVIEWEE 5

Shaun is our oldest interviewee and he holds more traditional views of what feminism is, during his generation feminism wasn't necessarily a topic spoke about and he is more associated with the stereotypes evolving around feminism. Therefore, his viewpoint is a crucial one when seeing the affects of society when tainting the definition of feminism.

LAURA DA SILVA: INTERVIEWEE 6

Laura holds portuguese decent, so i thought her opinion on the topic would also be interesting to hear. I wanted to know if different countries had different ideas on feminism and see how the cultures contrasted.

DYLAN SHELDON: INTERVIEWEE 7

Dylan's background is the most contrary when evaluating the above interviewees. His views on the topic hold a different insight due to his background and his opinion is an important factor for research.
